Your baby may not be able to speak – but they are able to let you know when they need attention.

"7 Signs Your Baby is Trying to Tell you Something.

Here are 7 questions for you:

1. Is your baby unhappy lying down?
2. Does your baby want to be in your arms all the time?
3. Do they feed constantly even when they are full?
4. Are their legs curled up and their hands held in tight fists?
5. Do they look to one side only? Is their head flattening?
6. Is there a constant eye discharge or is one eye closed?
7. Does your baby grunt a lot and do bowel movements take effort?

If you answered yes to any of the above, then your baby is sore and in pain. This discomfort prevents them from lying down comfortably and falling asleep. The tension in their body prevents them from stretching their legs, arms and toes. The muscle restriction on one side of their neck won’t allow them to turn their heads. This can cause a flattening on one side of their head.

A sore neck makes them favour one breast and cause an incorrect latch and suck. Babies on bottles run into problems too as they are taking in air with their feeds and become windy babies. Sucking is a soothing sensation that uncomfortable babies want to prolong, so the constant cycle of feeding, winding and being up in arms continues all day.

But, how do you break this cycle of discomfort?

Let me explain with baby Max’s story. Max was 4 weeks old and feeling sore in his neck and spine and unable to lie flat – and very windy! He found it uncomfortable to suck and stretch out his arms and legs easily. We worked on these areas and he was happy to lie flat for the first time. Working inside Max’s mouth helped him to use his upper palate and tongue to deepen his suck and allowed him to seal around the nipple reducing the intake of air.

Relieving this pressure over a few weeks with the gentle touch of Craniosacral Therapy changed his life and his mum’s too!
